My Best Friend’s Wedding

I met her the same day I became a Christian and just 5 days before I met David (it was a really good week for me!). We are absolute opposites is so many ways. She’s adventurous, loud, incredibly outgoing, spontaneous and the life of the party. I’m certainly friendly, but tend to be more reserved and quiet. She has an incredible gift in dance, theater and singing. I have 2 left feet and can’t carry a tune to save my life. She is always willing to try new things, live in new cities and meet new people. I’m a creature of habit, I like routine and have never lived anywhere but Colorado (um, you’d seriously have to drag me kicking and screaming out of this state if I had to move). Never the less, we’ve been best friends for the better part of a decade. I knew the second I met her that we were kindred spirits, just like I knew I was going to marry David the second I met him (ok ok, it maybe took me 20 minutes).

There is just something about Caitlin. She is one of the most enthralling, magical, loving, spirited, joyful people that I have ever known. She is one in a million. We have lived together, taken classes together, cooked together, prayed together, quoted the entire movie of Anchorman to each other and have certainly spent many hours laughing together. Aside from David and my family, absolutely no one has been by my side, through thick and thin, good and bad, like Caitlin has. She stood by my side on my wedding day, listened to me cry on the phone, helped guide me when I had this crazy idea I wanted to be a wedding photographer, and has faithfully been there every step of the way, no matter what.

When Caitlin called me last year and casually mentioned Victor’s name, I knew something was up. Something about the tone of her voice. She was trying to sort out her feelings for him after he made it abundantly clear he liked her. They met while she lived in Mexico a few years back. Apparently she made quite an impression on him! He started calling her. Then he came to the US to visit her. Then he kept calling. Eventually they started dating and shortly after got engaged. YAY!

The wedding was a few weeks ago in Victor’s home town of Xalapa in Mexico. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful couples days we had down there!!! A group of friends from Colorado traveled down together and had the time of our lives celebrating our beautiful friend Caitlin. This was one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to, and trust me, I’ve been to quite a few weddings.Colorado wedding photography

I had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid in Caitlin and Victor’s wedding, and let me tell you, it was an honor. I loved standing up with them, witnessing what God had done in their lives to bring them to each other. The wedding day was an absolute whirlwind of hairspray, makeup, peacock feathers, yummy food, beautiful flowers, great dancing and a ton of fun. I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect day for Caitlin and Victor.

Even though I wasn’t their official photographer, I still brought my camera and snapped a few photos here and there. We did a little mini shoot at a botanical gardens before the ceremony, it was so beautiful! Here are a few favorites….

It was a little rainy the first day…

Colorado wedding photographyXalapa is in a mountainous area, but it’s also very tropical. Our first day, we visited some amazing waterfalls. The view from the top was beautiful. Caitlin kept saying “I feel like I’m in Gorillas in the mist” over and over. I’m still laughing!

Can some one please explain why more people don’t paint their houses purple and turquoise in the United States? All the colors in Mexico are so fun!
