Lifestyle Portrait Photography

Have you noticed anything different over the last week or so on my blog? Those of you who follow my blog regularly probably noticed that I posted 2 sessions that were not weddings or engagements. *gasp* What is going on around here?!

I always tell people that I strongly believe you should do what you love. If you don’t love it, don’t do it. For me, that has always been weddings. I love watching two families unite. I love the emotions, the pretty flowers, the laughter and the joy that come along with weddings. For the last 5 years of my photography career, I have had a very strong focus on weddings and I have referred 99% of my inquiries for family, newborn, maternity and children’s pictures to other photographers.

But an interesting thing has started to happen…my wedding clients and my friends are starting families. And some of them have asked me to photograph their expanding families. And I have found myself to be absolutely head over heels in love with the images that come from these sessions. I’m finding myself drawn to documenting this exciting time in their lives. There is something about documenting the joy within family that just makes my heart smile. The more I do it, the more I love it.

So, to continue with my philosophy of “do what you love,” I have decided to open up a new “lifestyle portrait” side to Becky Young Photography. These lifestyle sessions include family pictures,anniversary sessions, maternity, newborn, children and pets. Lifestyle sessions are really just very relaxed portrait sessions where I document your life, your family. These sessions frequently take place at your home, in your natural environment. They can also be at a nearby park or area that your family loves to visit, wherever you feel most comfortable!

Lifestyle sessions are not stuffy, overly posed or stiff. It’s just you, hanging out with your family, getting a few pictures taken. It actually closely follows how I photograph weddings. My natural tendency is to come from a documentary perspective, capturing the sweet little moments in between. I think that approach allows me to capture the most natural expressions and dynamics within a family.

Pricing for lifestyle sessions starts at $300 and these sessions are open to anyone and everyone, past clients, current clients, clients who have never contacted me before. Typically, they are done Monday-Thursday in the evening (best for lighting!) since my weekends are pretty busy with weddings. You check out a bigger portfolio of images here. Loveland Engagement Session {Ryan & Julia}

I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I think that God has a place and a time for everything and everyone. I believe that my clients are brought across my path for a reason and I am so grateful for each and every one of them! I think that even when a situation isn’t ideal, good things still come out of it. When Ryan, Julia and I met for our first attempt at their engagement session, we were greeted with crazy strong winds and lots of blowing snow. Not exactly ideal for a photo shoot! But, I think that happened for a reason. I think it was so we could reschedule for this weekend and have absolutely fantastic setting for pictures! Ryan and Julia came up to Loveland and we went around a few of my favorite spots and got some great images!

I love a sunny afternoon for an engagement session as much as the next photographer. There is nothing better than the beautiful glow of warm Colorado sunshine coming through the pictures! But, every now and then it is nice to have a little change with the weather. I LOVED the weather for Julia and Ryan’s engagement shoot this weekend! The sky was so dramatic! The color of the sky was deep blue and you could see the rain falling over the mountains. It was absolutely beautiful. After their session, I lingered a while longer just to capture a few more pictures of the dark swirling sky. So cool!

Thanks for coming up to Loveland Julia and Ryan! I had a great time with you and I’m so glad we weren’t snowed on haha! I can’t wait for your wedding in October!

I discovered a fabulous row of lilac bushes that I just knew we had to go to. One of Julia’s wedding colors is purple, so this was perfect!
