Becky Young Photography {THE BLOG} bio picture

Welcome!

Hi friends!

Welcome to the Becky Young Photography blog. I am a professional wedding photographer in beautiful Colorado. I am married to my wonderful husband David and we have 2 crazy kitties (no really, they're crazy). I am so blessed to have such an amazing life!

Here, in my little slice of the Internet, you will find pictures and updates from all my recent weddings and portrait sessions. I will also post updates on my life as well, including my adventures in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado as well as other fabulous randomness, like my obsession with cupcakes (well, really anything that has sugar in it!).  I'm not the greatest writer in the world and I'm definitely lacking in the grammar department, (as my mom likes to frequently point out) but the one I thing I will be is honest, down to earth, and real.

If you are interested in having me photograph your wedding, please click on "Contact" in the above menu. While you're here, I'd love for you to also follow me on Twitter and Facebook

Featured in: Style Me Pretty (part I)

Oh goodness, I feel like I can finally breathe! I’ve been holding this little secret inside for weeks and it has been killing me! It’s like a breath of fresh air to be able to post this lovely little blog post.

So I’ll start from the beginning….a long time ago, the wonderful Rachel from Talia Events called me and said “So I’ve got a question for you…” To be honest, I don’t remember much of the converstaion past when she uttered the words “Style Me Pretty…” All I remember is saying yes about 8,763 times.

She and the uber-talented, floral designer Cori Cook were putting together a beautiful, luxurious photoshoot for Style Me Pretty. The only problem? They didn’t have a photographer. So when Rachel asked me if I wanted to be a part of their project, of course I said yes! Cori and I were featured on Style Me Pretty a few months ago for Adam and Jenn’s wedding and I pretty much want to photograph anything she creates. Rachel is coordinating Eric and Michelle’s wedding this July and I was dying to work with her and see her work her magic!

So we all gathered down at the stunning Crooked Willow Farms for one heck of an awesome day. It was so awesome to work with such talented people in the wedding industry! We had models, we had make-up, we had dresses galore, flowers, jewlery, videographers, veils, the works. I am so incredibly honored to have been invited to photograph such talent. So. Honored.

If you’d like to check out the feature, you can find it here!

Enough gushing, onto pictures! Enjoy!

Eric & Michelle: Engagement {Keystone, CO}

Eric and Michelle are the kind of people you just instantly like when you meet them. They’re fun, they like to laugh a lot, they’re honest, genuine and very down to earth. On top of that, they love Colorado. A lot. When we first met for a consultation, we started chatting about engagement session ideas. I knew they both liked to snowboard so I casually mentioned heading up to a Colorado ski resort for their engagement pictures. Both of their eyes just lit up.

I love it when my clients love living in Colorado as much as I do. And I love it even more when my clients share my vision for photography and incorporating the natural beauty of Colorado in their pictures. This is one of the most beautiful states in the county and I fully intend to take advantage of everything it has to offer. So do Eric and Michelle. So yesterday, we headed up to Keystone for their engagement photos.

I have already skied about 14 or 15 days this year (ahem, my crazy husband is on Day #34 or something nuts like that) and let me tell you, it went against every fiber of my being to be at a Colorado ski resort without my ski gear on. I felt naked as I wandered through Keystone Village wearing only jeans, a fleece and my ski coat. I felt like people were looking at me, saying to themselves “Why isn’t that woman carrying any ski gear? Doesn’t she know she’s at Keystone? That’s what you do at Keystone… You ski…” Thankfully, Eric and Michelle were right by my side, feeling just as out of place as I was! We tried to get on a chairlift, but we were scolded for not having skis or snowboards and we were banished to the gondola. Whatever, as long as we get to the top right?

Michelle and Eric love to snowboard. Not only do they board at the resorts, they also love to do backcountry stuff. So we decided to head to one of their favorite backcountry sites and do some pictures there. I literally had to catch my breath as we got out of the car. I’ve driven by this place dozens of times in my life, but never stopped to get out and admire how truly beautful it is. It was the perfect end to what probably is my favorite engagement session I’ve ever photographed.

I was tempted to post like 90 pictures here because I love them all. Some how I managed to get it down to a more manageable number. Enjoy….

Wedding Planner Giveaway!

If you don’t have a wedding planner for your wedding…well, I’m just going to be blunt….get one! I typically tell my clients my feelings about how amazing wedding planners are and how they truly make your day 200% easier for everyone involved. They take away stress, they set-up, the organize, they help with emergencies (eek, the flower girl got gum stuck in her hair!), they help with the flow of the day, and most importantly, they help you to relax and have fun.

Think about it, do you really want to be worrying about who set up the water glasses at the reception or worrying about if the candles have been lit or if the programs have been delivered to the ceremony site? Do you really want to be the one on your cell phone, giving directions to your lost florist while you’re getting your make-up done? Do you really want to delegate dozens of tasks to your family members, friends or bridal party on the wedding day, when they should be enjoying the day with you? Let me just answer that for you. No. You don’t! Truuuust me, you don’t want to worry about that stuff on the happiest day of your life.

My good friend Danielle of Something Classic Events is holding a fun contest on her blog right now. She giving away “Day of” coordination for one lucky winner! The only catch is that you have to contact her and submit your entry for the giveaway by Feb. 28th (Sunday!)! I have worked with Danielle before at weddings and she does an excellent job. Not only have I worked with her, but she was also my wedding coordinator! So I know from first hand experience, what an incredible job she does!

So go on, check out her blog and enter!

**UPDATE: I just found out Swept Away Bridal Boutique is holding a $599 gown sale this weekend only! All their gowns are only $599, so if you haven’t found your dress yet, head over there!

Here’s a picture from Dave and Francesca’s wedding last year that Danielle worked on. She did an outstanding job!

Erik & Theresa: Engagement {Evergreen, CO}

This may be the longest I’ve ever gone without blogging! In my defense, I’ve been crazy busy with photo shoots, meetings, skiing (of course!!) and hanging out with some of my fun clients, like Erik and Theresa!

Erik, Theresa and their 2 adorable dogs, Maggie & Rocky met up with me in Evergreen, Colorado for a fun and snowy engagement session this week. I absolutely fell head over heels in love with their dogs! They’re maybe the cutest bundles of fur I’ve ever seen. I secretly really hope they come crash Erik and Theresa’s wedding! :-)

I’m so glad the weather held since snow is in the forecast for the rest of the week!
