A lot of photographers actively pursue getting published in national wedding magazines like Brides, Southern Weddings, Martha Stewart and the like. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I personally would much rather have my future local clients looking at my work in a magazine than some girl in Yeehaw Junction, Florida (I swear that’s a real place. Don’t believe me? Google it!) Not that I would mind if the editor of Modern Bride contacted me to publish my work (really, Antonia van der Meer, I would not mind AT ALL if you would like to publish my work!). I just see a lot of value in having your work in magazines that local brides read.
That being said, getting published has not been on my radar at all. I’ve been slightly preoccupied with finding pretty business cards, ranking my favorite wedding cake (right now Schmidt’s Bakery is winning with their poppyseed cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting) and keeping up with a busy schedule of weddings and portrait shoots. So I was a bit caught off guard when the managing editor of Wedding Vow Magazine contacted me to say they wanted to do a full spread feature on one of my couples. Naturally, I said of course!
I shot Nicole and Ryan’s wedding last year at the Tapestry House. They had a beautiful wedding that caught the eye of the folks at Vow. I just got my copies of the latest issue and I am so thrilled with how everything turned out. They did a beautiful job at featuring Nicole and Ryan’s big day.
